Side bet meaning: an optional wager with its own paytable
A main bet in baccarat backs the Banker hand or the Player hand, as the banker meaning page explains. A side bet ignores that contest. It asks something narrower, such as whether the first two cards are a pair, and it settles on that alone.
Three properties separate it from the main bet:

Wizard of Odds describes a perfect pair as two identical cards, a coloured pair as the same rank and colour, and a red/black pair as the same rank in different colours. It prints other pay tables for both bets, so a table that looks the same can pay differently.
